The Keys to la Maison is a hybrid escape room project made for Hermès Maison with Superbien. Carefully crafted, with sensors concealed in Hermès home décor, made of easily replacable kit. The goal was to create a magical experience that highlighted the maison's incredible craftsmanship.
I joined the project in the early stages, coming up with the mechanics and how to best conceal everything, and doing R&D with a fantastic team. Hacking old phones, concealing RFID chips and readers, testing electromagnets and magnet switches, the early stages were the most fantastic playground imaginable. I mostly relied on Arduinos, as they are reliable and easy to pack as part of a modular kit, allowing for the teams on-site to swap components themselves in case of an issue.
The project is currently live in four Hermès boutiques: Dubai, Singapore, Shanghai and Brussels.
